Introduction

1. I am not talking about "seconds" of time, but things that are "second" in sequence

2. The Gospel is the good news that Jesus died for our sins and arose again

3. There are five things that are second that pertain to the Gospel

 

Body

I. The gospel is contained in a second law - Hebrews 8:6-13

A. Who did it come by? - John 1:17

B. What preceded the second law? - Hebrews 10:9

C. What happened to the first law? - Colossians 2:14

D. Why give the first law? - Galatians 3:19

 

II. The Gospel commands a second birth - John 3:3

A. Is the new birth essential? - John 3:5

B. How are we born again? - 1 Peter 1:22-23

C. When are we born again? - 1 Peter 3:20-21

D. Do we have an example? - Acts 2:38

 

III. The Gospel promises a second coming - Hebrews 9:28

A. What will happen to the believers when He comes again? - 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18

B. What will happen to the nonbelievers when He comes again? - 2 Thessalonians 1:7-10

 

IV. The Gospel warns of a second death

A. What is the first death? - James 2:26

B. What is the second death? - 2 Thessalonians 1:9

C. Christians don’t need to worry about the second death - Revelation 20:6

 

V. The Gospel contains a second law of pardon

A. Do we have an example? - Jonah 3:1

1. Peter - John 21:15-18

2. Prodigal son - Luke 15:11-32

3. Simon the sorcerer - Acts 8:18-24

 

Conclusion

1. We live under a second law

2. We can experience the second birth

3. We can live in hopeful expectation of the second coming

4. We can avoid the second death

5. We can know that we can have a second chance
